A spokesperson for Instagram confirmed this feature to TechCrunch. The payment feature enables users to add their credit or debit cards, set up a secure PIN, and shop without exiting the app.
One of the first apps to integrate this feature is the restaurant reservation app Resy. Instagram states that businesses will gradually implement this feature. Additionally, Instagram users can also purchase items like movie tickets through the app.
To check if the feature is available, tap on the profile icon at the bottom right corner of the screen. Then, for Android users, tap on the three-dot icon at the top right corner of the screen, and for iOS users, tap on the gear icon next to 'Edit Profile'.
Next, scroll down to the Settings section, where you'll find the Payments option at the bottom of the screen. A small note: this feature is currently being rolled out to users in the US and UK.
The payment feature synergizes with Instagram's Shoppable Tags, enabling users to simply tap on a tag in an Instagram post to make a purchase.
With Shoppable Tags directing users to a business's website for purchases, the payment feature allows users to complete transactions directly on Instagram without leaving the app.
