Starting from March 16th onwards, Instagram stores will no longer be able to tag products during live broadcasts but will have to wait until the end of the livestream or use alternative links. Meta explains this move as a way to concentrate more on developing core features.
Instagram will cease its online shopping feature on March 16, 2023
Instagram's Direct Shopping feature made its debut in 2020, coinciding with the surge in online shopping during the pandemic. However, Meta is now steering users towards a more basic approach to product discovery by removing the shopping tab from Instagram's main screen and discontinuing the direct shopping feature in favor of focusing on Reels for user-generated videos.
It's no surprise that Instagram's parent company is making the decision to cut costs to the maximum in the current challenging economic situation. In addition, revenue from direct shopping is unstable, with reports indicating that social media shopping only accounts for 5% of the United States' e-commerce in 2022.
In addition to Meta, TikTok, a platform famous for shopping through livestreams, is also scaling down the scope of online shopping activities. Don't forget to follow Mytour for the latest updates on technology!
