In a recent tweet by app researcher Alessandro Paluzzi, Instagram is currently experimenting with a feature similar to Clubhouse for its app, named Audio Rooms. Paluzzi has shared some screenshots introducing this new 'audio room' feature.
Screenshots reveal that the Audio Rooms feature may be integrated into the Direct Message (DM) interface within the app. Here, you'll find a new microphone icon next to the camera icon, allowing you to start a new audio chat room.
This discovery comes right after reports of Facebook developing a Clubhouse replica. Moreover, during the Live Rooms feature announcement, Instagram stated that they are 'exploring more interactive tools such as providing control options for Mods and audio features, expected to launch in the coming months.'
In addition to the new audio room feature, Paluzzi also uncovered that the Facebook-owned photo-sharing social platform is actively working to enable end-to-end encryption for chats. Another screenshot from the app has been shared, displaying the chat screen with the notification 'start an end-to-end encrypted chat.'
This implies that the company will soon add E2EE encryption to conversations on the platform. This move follows Facebook's decision to integrate its chat services into a unified platform. Consequently, the company is bolstering user privacy by adding an additional layer of protection for private conversations.
