Facebook first introduced the Instagram app for Windows 10 in 2016. The company's app suite utilized their own cross-platform development toolkit OSMeta. However, this is about to change. As per Aggiornamenti Lumia's findings, it seems like the social media giant is preparing to debut Instagram's web app on the Microsoft Store.

This will offer various benefits, such as a significantly lighter app, in addition to providing a WebView pointing to Instagram's web app. Facebook can also maintain the app more easily. Any updates made on the server will automatically reflect in the app. Therefore, there's no need to manage individual support segments as is often the case with standalone apps.
This seems to be a hosting web app, not a Progressive Web App (PWA) - a new technology that helps users access the web quickly, reliably, and attractively. In fact, you can easily identify a website as a PWA when the Microsoft Edge browser provides an install button on the URL bar, a feature you won't find on Instagram.com.
Regardless, it seems like Instagram users will also receive better support on Windows 10; as previously, the app wasn't updated regularly.
