According to a report in The Wall Street Journal, influential Instagram users have been instructed not to share anything related to Snapchat, including their Snapchat accounts in their bios. Snapchat's lawyers have expressed deep disappointment with Facebook's actions, even naming an internal document to address this issue as Project Voldemort, after a villainous character in the Harry Potter series.
The report also indicates that individuals with influence who persist in posting Snapchat-related statuses on their personal profiles will receive warnings about account verification removal (blue checkmark). This is a noteworthy issue because account verification has been considered a symbol to ensure one's credibility with their followers.
Videos containing Snapchat filters and the hashtag #snapchat are also concealed from search results on Instagram and the 'Explore' tab, where many users look for new content and interesting people to follow. We conducted a cross-check by searching for the term 'Snapchat' on Instagram and received a notification that Snapchat posts have been hidden because the user community reported some content as inappropriate according to Instagram's policies.
Instagram also prevents users from inserting links to their personal Snapchat accounts in their bios. We received a notification that the link requires adding a service not supported by Instagram. Refer to how to create a Snapchat account here.
It's clear that Snapchat is not pleased with this action by Facebook, and they also have strong reasons for it. Every other new feature of Snapchat is promptly removed and showcased on Instagram within a few months, giving users very little reason to continue using Snapchat.
