Undoubtedly, MATLAB is a useful software that enables users to perform numerical computations with matrices, plot function graphs or data charts, and implement algorithms, among other features. If you are using a Mac, refer to the steps to install MATLAB on Mac OS X in the following Mytour article.
How to Install MATLAB on Mac OS X
Note: MATLAB program can be quite hefty, therefore it is advisable to utilize a high-speed Internet connection for downloading the program.
Step 1: Visit software.usc.edu/matlab to download MATLAB for Mac, or alternatively, access it directly here: MATLAB for Mac. Additionally, download the USC activation key from the download page at software.usc.edu/matlab. During the activation process, you will need to use this key to install Matlab on Mac OS X.
Step 2: Double-click the downloaded file to extract it, then open the Matlab folder.
Step 3: Double-click the InstallForMacOSX file to initiate the installation.
A dialog box will appear on the screen stating: “InstallForMacOSX is an application downloaded from the Internet. Are you sure you want to open it?”. Click Open to proceed with the installation.
If prompted, enter the Admin password for Mac when requested.
Step 4: In the Select Installation Method window, choose Log in with a MathWorks Account and then click Next.
Step 5: In the License Agreement window, carefully read the terms and select Yes
Step 6: Click Next.
Step 7: In the next window, if you already have a MathWorks account, select Login to your MathWorks Account and enter your USC email address and MathWorks password, then click Next.
Note: If you don't have a MathWorks account, follow these steps:
- Step 1: Choose I need to create an Account(Requires an Activation Key) and click Next.
- Step 2: In the Account Creation window, enter the following information:
1: In the E-mail address box, enter your USC email address
2. In the Retype E-mail address box, re-enter your USC email address
3. In the Password box, enter a password for your MathWorks account
4. In the Retype Password box, enter your password again
5. In the First Name box, enter your first name
6. In the Last Name box, enter your last name
7. In the Activation key box, enter the activation key you previously downloaded.
- Step 3: Click Next.
Step 8: In the License Selection window, choose Enter an Activation Key for a license not listed, then enter the license key from the PDF license document you downloaded HERE
Step 9: Click Next.
Step 10: On the screen, a Confirmation window will appear with the selected settings. Review the settings and click Install to install Matlab.
Note: The installation process may take up to 20 minutes or more, depending on your computer's configuration. Additionally, do not close the installer during the installation process.
Activate MATLAB
Once the installation process is complete, on your screen, you will see the Installation Complete window. Here, check the Activate MATLAB option and then click Next to activate Matlab.
Note: You will need to re-activate the Matlab software license on December 30th each year. Refer to the instructions on how to renew your software license.
Step 1: In the Authentication Options window, select Authorize this computer now and click Next
Step 2: In the User Name window, enter the username you use to log in to your computer. Matlab will register with the specified username.
Step 3: In the Activation Complete window, click Finish to complete the activation process.
