To install 2 Office suites on one computer without conflicts, follow these instructions:
Install 2 Office suites on the same computer to avoid conflicts
(Here we will guide you on how to simultaneously install Office 2003 and 2007 on the same machine)
Step 1: Install Office 2003 first, install normally.
After installing, create a folder named Office 2007 on drive C and proceed with the Office 2007 installation.
When prompted, select 'Customize' (Image below)
Step 2: On the Upgrade tab, check Keep all previous versions (Image below)
Step 3: Switch to the File Location tab and navigate to the created folder above (Image below)
Step 4: Go to the User Infomations tab, fill in the information below, and press 'Install Now' below. The installation process will proceed normally until completion (Image below)
Step 5: However, to avoid conflicts, you need to change some settings in the Registry
From Start, select Run, type Regedit, and navigate to the key:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\12.0\Word\Options and
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\11.0\Word\Options
Go to New, select DWORD Value with the name ‘NoRereg’, enter the value 1, and click OK (Image below)
Finally, close all windows. You can now use both Office versions 2003 and 2007 simultaneously on the same machine without conflicts. For other versions, follow the same steps.
Note:
- If you create both, .docx files will be opened by Word 2007 and .doc files will be opened by Word 2003.
- If you create the value at HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\11.0\Word\Options, both .docx and .doc files will be opened by Word 2007.
