Intel officially confirmed on Wednesday the release of the 11th generation Core chip for desktops in the first quarter of 2021, likely in March. This new chip series, codenamed Rocket Lake-S, belongs to the mid-range segment and supports PCIe 4.0. Although specific details haven't been disclosed, Intel representatives mentioned that the new chip will bring surprises in gaming performance. This 11th-generation chip still follows the 14nm process and is expected to be the last in the 14nm series, compatible with Intel 400-series motherboards. Despite the older process, Rocket Lake-S is rumored to have improvements based on the Willow Cove architecture from the Gen 11 chip series for laptops. Additionally, it comes equipped with Intel Xe graphics and Thunderbolt 4 support.
