(Motherland) - Intel Corporation has made breakthroughs and innovations that have led to achievements in Vietnam.
Established in 1968, Intel Corporation has undergone a journey of innovation and creativity for over 50 years, achieving numerous remarkable milestones. The year 2021 marked the 50th anniversary of the birth of the Intel 4004 processor, the first building block for modern processors. Intel's technology has permeated every aspect of life, with its primary goal being to continue striving to advance technology to improve the lives of everyone.
To achieve this goal, Vietnam plays a crucial role as one of the fastest-growing ASEAN countries in 2022, with GDP growth of over 8% compared to the previous year. The computer market in Vietnam is expected to rebound in the second half of 2023. The digital transformation of enterprises is still ongoing in the fields of financial services, telecommunications, and manufacturing.
To stay ahead of this trend, Intel will introduce many new products and solutions in Vietnam. The banking, telecommunications, manufacturing, education, and government sectors will receive more priority from Intel in the future through solutions tailored to real needs. The corporation will also work closely with partners to bring programs and events to consumers. In the meantime, the IT event, rated as the leading event in Vietnam for consumers, INTEL TECH CAMP, will return this year after its success last September with over 12,000 participants.
In the manufacturing sector, the Intel Products Vietnam (IPV) factory plays a crucial role in the IDM 2.0 and '5 years, 4 processes' strategic plans announced by CEO Pat Gelsinger in 2021. With the vision of 'Creating the future for both Intel and Vietnam,' Intel Corporation has invested a total of $1.5 billion in the factory in Vietnam, creating around 6,500 jobs in high technology (including approximately 2,400 Intel employees), and contributing $76.3 billion in export value from 2010 to date. In Q1/2023, Intel accounted for 50% of the total export turnover of the Ho Chi Minh City High-Tech Park (SHTP), 15% of the country's export turnover of components/electronics, and approximately 18% of the total export turnover of Ho Chi Minh City.
Throughout its operational history, IPV has achieved numerous noteworthy accomplishments, such as producing over 3.5 billion units of products; manufacturing the latest 13th generation Intel® Core™ processors and gearing up for the production of Meteor Lake processors by late 2023; supporting high-tech workforce training through the University Engineering Education Alliance Program (HEEAP2.0); assisting the Customs Department in implementing e-Customs solutions, enabling continuous electronic customs data exchange for the supply chain; IPV has also received the Intel Quality Award twice in 2016 and 2022, an internal award for units representing and pioneering the values that Intel aspires to; in 2017, IPV was honored to receive the third-class Labor Medal from the President.
In terms of social responsibility, Intel and the Intel Foundation always aim for innovative partnerships and collaborations to positively impact communities and the world to fulfill the commitment of 'Do Something Wonderful.' In Vietnam, Intel has invested approximately $22 million in programs supporting education, environment, safety, and health, including 10 billion VND to help Vietnam overcome the COVID-19 pandemic. Over 60% of the corporation's employees are volunteers in CSR programs, contributing over 200,000 hours to make positive changes in life.
Recently, IPV has also made efforts to minimize environmental impacts and pursue sustainable development. Intel's factory in Vietnam has saved over 40 million KWH of electricity; used 2.68 million KWH of green energy; reduced net emissions by over 13,500 tons of carbon; handled and recycled 100% of hazardous waste; recycled 95% of solid waste; saved and recycled 1 million m3 of water.
