At the beginning of the year, Panasonic stirred up users with the S5II, and now, everything seems to be booming with the S5IIX. Essentially similar to the S5II, the S5IIX will be enhanced with additional features that I believe are worth the investment and bring about a slight change in appearance, really cool, guys. The Panasonic Lumix S5II was introduced back in March, and according to B&HPhoto's announcements, its sales have been incredibly impressive. This is quite understandable as Panasonic fans have been waiting quite a while to get a camera that addresses issues like autofocus hunting, phase detection autofocus,... And now, the S5IIX also promises to bring in substantial revenue. In terms of internal specifications, the Panasonic Lumix S5IIX features a new 24.2MP Full-Frame sensor like the S5II, dual ISO, and 5-axis image stabilization. The camera's autofocus system boasts up to 779 points. It will be capable of recording 6K/30fps video in a 3:2 aspect ratio and 5.9K (16:9 ~ 5888 x 3312) at 30fps (also 23.98fps and 25fps) and 4K/60fps.For video crop (APS-C) 4.1K (17:9 aspect ratio ~ 4128 x 2176), the S5IIX offers the ability to record 12-bit video at up to 60fps, or 3.5K (4:3 aspect ratio ~ 3536 x 2656) at 30fps. And just like the S5II, the S5IIX can also record 120fps in 1080p format. There's still a small fan at the top to enhance cooling performance, so Panasonic assures users they can comfortably record unlimited 4K footage.
The connectivity options of the S5IIXRegarding audio, when using the built-in microphone, users can record at 48kHz/24bit, or use an external mic with the 3.5mm port. The standout feature exclusive to the Panasonic Lumix S5IIX is its ability to record 5.8K ProRes onto an SSD. Here are the noteworthy upgrades of the S5IIX compared to the standard S5II:- 4K/60p 10-bit 422 ALL-I (crop)
- 4K/30p 10-bit 422 ALL-I (no crop)
- 5.8K/30fps ProRes 422 HQ RAW video to SSD
- Support for Blackmagic RAW (BRAW) (later to be updated for S5II through software)
- Wired 4K/60p streaming
- Wireless FHD/60p streaming
At just a slightly higher price point than the S5II, this is a worthwhile investment if you want the most premium features. Additionally, the S5IIX's name is now engraved in black instead of the usual red.Gerald Undone shares insights on the S5IIX
