Introducing the Razer Nommo V2 Pro: Sleek, Wireless, Immersive Sound for Your Gaming Setup
Buzz
After 5 years since the release of Nommo Pro, Razer brings you the Nommo Pro V2, the ultimate gaming audio solution. Priced at around $400, this upgrade boasts significantly improved bass quality, delivering a powerful audio experience for gaming, movies, and music enthusiasts alike. However, the design of the satellite speakers has evolved. Each speaker now features a single, elongated 3-inch driver, replacing the previous dual-driver setup. Stay tuned for an in-depth look at the audio performance of this premium Razer speaker system. One impressive difference in terms of functionality of the Nommo V2 Pro is its ease of connectivity and setup experience when placing this 2.1 speaker system on your computer desk. Looking at the image, you can see the speaker unit on the right side has three connection ports. One is the power adapter port for both speakers. Two is the USB-C port for connecting the speaker to the computer. And finally, there's the cable to connect the audio signal as well as power to the left speaker.Once you've plugged in these three cables, you've completed 75% of the entire speaker setup process, placing it in the most suitable corner to create the best listening experience when sitting at your computer desk. The final step is just to plug in the cable for the subwoofer and place it in a corner of the room, not too close to where you sit to ensure that the powerful bass does not affect your listening experience. And that's it. The most commendable thing about the Nommo V2 Pro, and something not every entertainment audio solution can achieve, is the ability to minimize connection cables to the fullest extent possible. Apart from the three cables from the right speaker to the left speaker, plugged into the power outlet, and connected to the computer, there are absolutely no additional cables visible on your computer desk. Those three cables can be neatly tucked away behind the desk, creating a workspace and entertainment corner that is tidy and visually appealing, without a tangle of wires cluttering the desk surface. Even though it's a wired speaker, gaming gear enthusiasts may also appreciate this setup, especially thanks to the volume control puck.
Even the speaker system controller, a cute round puck-shaped knob, now utilizes 2.4 GHz technology to connect the entire speaker system together. Placing this control unit on the desk looks very sleek, with the metal knob on a plastic base still retaining a classy appearance. Inserting the two batteries provided with the speakers, the device powers on, connects to the right speaker, then the right speaker proceeds to connect to the subwoofer and transfer the left speaker's audio channel data to the correct location. Apart from the connection between the main speakers, everything else is done using 2.4 GHz connectivity. As a result, we have a speaker system that makes the computer desk look much neater, with a control unit that is both convenient and aesthetically pleasing, adding an extra touch of sophistication. However, to fully utilize the operational capabilities of the Nommo V2 Pro, it may be worth mentioning how to use the speaker control puck. Due to wireless connection, if there's no audio signal received for a period of time, the Nommo V2 Pro will temporarily shut off. All you need to do to turn the speaker system back on is to press and hold the puck for 3 seconds. Normally, you would just rotate it to adjust the volume, but if pressed down, the speaker will temporarily mute. Holding all three cables can power on and off.Underneath the plastic base of the speaker control unit, there's a button and an LED indicator light for the connection mode. The familiar blue color indicates Bluetooth 5.3 connection, green indicates USB-C wired connection to the computer, and when the speaker is powered on, the LED light on the puck will shine white for a few seconds.Moving to the back, both sides of the Nommo V2 Pro speakers feature RGB lighting, perfectly suited for desktop setups against the wall. With the Razer Synapse control software, the lighting array can be adjusted to pulse with the music, change colors according to preference, or even load RGB lighting profiles tailored to supported games, like Cyberpunk 2077 for example. This change is also extremely important due to the inherent support for virtual surround sound processing in THX Spatial Audio standard, which can also be toggled within the Razer Synapse software. And that brings us to the most important aspect of any speaker system, even as beautiful as Razer's: the listening experience.First and foremost, it must be affirmed that the 3-inch full-range drivers of the Nommo V2 Pro perform admirably. In a 40-square-meter room, just around 60% volume in Windows 11 is more than sufficient to experience impressive sound. Coupled with that is the subwoofer, requiring only adjustment to level 3 or 4/8 in Synapse to provide ample depth to the bass range, without needing to max it out to appreciate the musicality when enjoying songs, or the sound when watching movies and playing games.Comparing it to my memory of experiencing the Nommo Pro back in 2018, the Nommo V2 Pro boasts significantly better sound quality. Despite losing the tweeter driver representing the high range, the difference is evident both in terms of detail and musicality. However, when compared to other computer speaker systems in the same price range, discerning ears will certainly want these speakers to have a bit more overall detail, a bit more finesse in the high range, and a bit more detail in the singer's voice. As stated in the title, these speakers are easy on the ears, warm-sounding, with an emphasis on the mid and bass ranges. In fact, this sound presentation is very recognizable if you have experience using many audio products geared towards the gamer market. Most people appreciate such warm sound quality, especially when watching movies or listening to sentimental music. However, there's a slight issue with the Nommo V2 Pro, at least with the basic 2.1 sound mode, without activating the THX Spatial Audio surround sound mode. At low volume levels, the bass and mid-bass ranges almost overshadow all other details in a music track, requiring the speaker volume to be turned up louder to truly appreciate the music. This will surely be troublesome for some people, especially those late-night gamer buddies who still want to enjoy music or play games but don't want the speaker volume to be too loud and disturb others. On another note, thanks to having two speakers on each side, placed in optimal positions unlike the Leviathan soundbar, the simulated surround sound quality with THX algorithm on the Nommo V2 Pro is much more impressive. The way the speakers emit very detailed sounds and then reflect them back to your ears is always a plus point for speakers coming from Razer.Of course, for online shooter games, facing off against other players, headphones are still indispensable. But for every other genre of game, especially single-player games, focusing on the story and grandeur of each scene in the game, the Nommo V2 Pro combined with THX Spatial Audio is always what creates a highlight in electronic gaming.Of course, the advice given is to reserve THX Spatial Audio for movies and games, as then the enhanced layers of sound will be utilized to their fullest extent. When listening to music, open up Razer Synapse to switch back to the traditional 2.1 sound mode. When listening to music, simulating surround sound to create depth inadvertently creates a blur in the music, combined with the lack of detail in the high ranges due to the speaker's tuning, so you really shouldn't listen to music with THX Spatial Audio. If you turn the issue into a strength, meaning if you love the warm and easy-listening sound of the Nommo V2 Pro, then combining both the design, functionality, and sound quality, Razer's 'Pro' speaker system will be very suitable for you. Otherwise, at that price point, there are many other options, but one thing is for sure: they won't look as stunningly modern and sleek, without being bulky and cluttered, like the new version of Nommo speakers.
