0 - The Golden Age
Motorcycle enthusiasts find themselves in a golden age as manufacturers produce a multitude of models catering to various age groups. The evidence? A study by Oxford University reveals that the motorcycle industry not only significantly contributes to the overall economy but also, on a personal level, motorcycles make our commute easier, save time, and have environmental benefits. Furthermore, weekend rides on motorcycles help individuals shed stress, improve mental well-being, and enhance the quality of life. However, not every brand can create a bike that meets all the criteria set by buyers. These criteria include being lightweight, sufficiently powerful, sporty yet comfortable, and equipped with premium features. Aprilia has the answer to all these criteria, and that answer is called the RS 660.

In simple terms, the RS 660's engine is a half sibling of the RSV4 engine, maintaining a piston diameter of 81 mm. Leveraging Aprilia's V4 platform proves a smart move, ensuring high performance for the RS 660 with a 63.9 mm piston stroke that delivers an exhilarating and responsive throttle experience. This parallel-twin engine boasts a peak power of 100 hp at 10,500 rpm and a maximum torque of 67 Nm at 8,500 rpm. Impressively, 80% of this torque is available at 4,000 rpm, with 90% kicking in at 6,250 rpm. Notably, the uneven firing order with a 270-degree crankshaft creates a sound reminiscent of legendary V-twin engines, adding excitement and emotion.
Referring to the torque chart of the RS 660 conducted by CycleWorld, it's evident that the RS 660's engine suits a wide range of purposes, delivering abundant pulling power from low to high RPMs. One notable benefit is the seamless gear transitions when navigating city streets.
5 - Frame: It's an Aprilia!
When you think of Aprilia, you think of their renowned frame engineering, and the RS 660 perfectly embodies that tradition. However, the RS 660's aluminum frame is a completely new design, tailored to complement the innovative engine. With a focus on weight reduction, the engine now serves as a load-bearing element, contributing to a sleek and agile motorcycle. At the rear, there's an asymmetric aluminum swingarm directly attached to the engine, forming a cohesive unit.

6 - An Electronic Horizon
If you pay attention, you'll notice that mid-range motorcycles rarely feature sophisticated electronic systems, let alone the truly advanced ones. Take the Yamaha R7, a direct competitor to the RS 660, for example. The R7 only has basic ABS, lacking Cornering ABS. It also lacks riding modes. Meanwhile, the RS 660 offers an electronic horizon with Cornering ABS, five riding modes, and features from the Aprilia Performance Ride Control (APRC) typically found in high-end motorcycles. These include Traction Control, Wheelie Control, Cruise Control, Quick Shift (both up and down), Engine Brake, and Engine Map.
Let me share something intriguing about the RS 660's Quick Shift with you all—you can customize the gear shifting pattern for an enhanced track experience. Typically, we pull to upshift, but on the track, it's common to switch it up and push down to shift up. How fantastic is that, folks?
7 - Sophisticated Additional Features
Despite belonging to the mid-range category, Aprilia has bestowed the RS 660 with special attention. Up front, it boasts the Brembo M4.32 brake calipers gripping 320 mm discs. The M4.32 calipers, despite their age, have become nearly standard on mid-range bikes due to their stellar performance. The braking system, also crafted by Brembo, stands as both a testament to performance and aesthetics. The front fork, a creation of KYB, boasts a 41 mm fork tube diameter.
