Born in 1921 in Binh Duong village, Binh Son district, Quang Ngai province, the acclaimed poet Te Hanh (born Tran Te Hanh) currently resides in Hai Ba Trung district, Hanoi.
Engaged in the revolution since August 1945, Te Hanh has been involved in cultural and educational activities in Hue and Da Nang. In 1948, he was part of the Leadership Committee for the Resistance Union of South Central Vietnam; Executive Committee member for the Central Literary and Artistic Association. In 1957, upon the establishment of the Vietnam Writers' Association, he served as an Executive Committee member for sessions I and II, and Executive Committee member for the Vietnam Union of Literature and Arts (1963). He held various positions within the Writers' Association, including Head of Foreign Affairs (1968), Chairman of the Translation Council (1983), and Chairman of the Poetry Council (1986).
He has published several poetry collections: Flower Season (1945); Exam Season Flowers (1948); People's Heart (1953); July Poems (1961); Half of Love (1963); New Odes (1966); Journey Through Song (1970); Homeland Tales (1973); In the Rhythm of Days (1974); Amidst Spring Days (1977); The Path and the River (1980); Song of Life (1985); Te Hanh Collection (1987); Te Hanh's Poems (1989); Old Garden (1992); Between You and Me (1992); Waiting for You (1994). Additionally, he has published essays and numerous poetry collections for children. He has also translated works by renowned poets from around the world.
His prolific literary career and dedication to the arts have left an indelible mark on Vietnamese literature, enriching it with his profound insights and poetic craftsmanship.
He has received numerous literary awards: The Self-Reliance Prize in 1939; The Pham Van Dong Award from the District V Literary and Art Association. He was awarded the Ho Chi Minh Prize for Literature and Arts in 1996.
