Trần Quốc Tuấn (1231 - 1300), also known as Hưng Đạo Vương, was an exceptional military leader of our nation. In 1285 and 1287, the Mongol invaders attacked our country, and each time he was appointed by King Trần Nhân Tông to lead the forces, achieving resounding victories on both occasions. During the reign of King Trần Anh Tông, he served as a strategist in Vạn Kiếp (now Hưng Đạo commune, Chí Linh district, Hải Dương province) and passed away there. People revere him as the Virtuous Saint Trần and establish temples in his honor across the country.
In the latter half of the 13th century, within just thirty years (1257 - 1287), the Mongol invaders crossed our borders three times. At that time, the enemy was formidable, and defeating them required unanimous support from the entire military and the people. Trần Quốc Tuấn wrote this essay to call upon the generals to dedicate themselves to the fight against the invaders.
