The iOS 14.4 update brings the ability to scan smaller QR codes using the phone's camera, adds device classification for Bluetooth devices for headphones and other audio devices, and can notify iPhone 12 users if their device's camera is not genuine after repair.
Included in the latest iOS update is a fix for HDR photos taken with the iPhone 12 Pro and issues related to the keyboard. iPadOS also has a similar release note for Notes.
Specifically, iOS 14.4 includes the following improvements and bug fixes:
- Camera now recognizes and scans smaller QR codes.
- Option to classify Bluetooth devices in Settings for accurate headphone identification for audio notifications.
- Notification when unable to verify the camera on iPhone 12, iPhone 12 mini, iPhone 12 Pro, and iPhone 12 Pro Max as a new, genuine Apple camera.
- Fixed issue with strange image artifacts that may appear in HDR photos taken with iPhone 12 Pro.
- Fixed Fitness widget not displaying updated Activity data.
- Fixed input delay and missing suggestions in the keyboard.
- Fixed keyboard not displaying correct language in Messages.
- Fixed issue with Audio Stories in News app on CarPlay may not continue playing after being paused for voice navigation or Siri directions.
- Fixed issue where enabling Switch Control in Accessibility may interfere with answering calls from the lock screen.
For watchOS 7.3, the update introduces a new Unity watch face inspired by the Pan-African flag colors, Time to Walk feature for Apple Fitness+ subscribers - a feature that allows users to listen to inspirational stories while walking. Additionally, watchOS 7.3 also expands ECG feature to more regions including Japan, Mayotte, Philippines, Taiwan, and Thailand, along with fixes for Control Center and Notification Center not responding.
In addition to iOS 14.4, iPadOS 14.4, and watchOS 7.3, Apple also released tvOS 14.4 update for Apple TV. However, this release seems to be just a minor update with some notable improvements as there are no additional features in the testing phase. For macOS Big Sur 11.2, the company provided the second RC version earlier this week, so it's unclear whether the update for Mac will reach all users today or not.
You can now download all updates at this time. For iPhone, Apple Watch, and iPad, simply go to Settings > General > Software Update and follow the on-screen instructions to install the latest OS version. Apple TV users just need to go to Settings > System > Software Updates and select Update Software to update tvOS 14.4.
