iOS 16 supports the always-on display feature for iPhone 14

In the latest issue of the Power On newsletter, Mark Gurman from Bloomberg reveals that iOS 16 may include the always-on display feature for iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max.

Specifically, in his report, Mark Gurman states that iOS 16

will support the always-on display feature in the future, originally planned for last year's iPhone 13. This will allow the iPhone to significantly reduce frame rate on the lock screen and display information quickly, similar to the new Apple Watch models. However, the always-on display feature will be exclusive to iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max models.

Remember a report in December 2020 indicated that the Always-on Display mode could 'appear' thanks to LTPO displays. Meanwhile, Apple plans to utilize LTPO TFT technology for its premium iPhone models set to launch next year. LTPO panels offer variable refresh rates, reducing refresh rates to extremely low speeds and consuming much less energy.
