A man who fell into a mountain ravine has just been saved thanks to the incident detection and emergency SOS feature via satellite on iPhone 14.
The incident detection feature equipped on iPhone 14 is once again believed to have saved a life. According to reports, a man in California (USA) drove his car off a cliff and fell into a mountain ravine at a height of 400 feet (~121.92 meters) last Friday, on July 21.
Emergency SOS Feature via Satellite on iPhone 14Immediately upon the accident, the incident detection feature on iPhone 14 will automatically contact emergency services. As the accident location is outside of cellular coverage, the iPhone has automatically sent a text message to Apple's emergency dispatch center via satellite connection. Thanks to the location information received from the iPhone, the local search and rescue team located and rescued the man by helicopter.

Steve Goldsworthy, head of the Montrose Search and Rescue team, stated: 'He fell into a mountain ravine at a height of 400 feet with virtually no way out. I believe if we didn't have timely location information, he might have been unconscious. I kept telling him how lucky he was.' Another team member mentioned that the man had a head injury and didn't know what would have happened if he hadn't been rescued in time.
Incident LocationThe incident detection feature is enabled by default on all iPhone 14 models. In the U.S., emergency SOS via satellite requires iPhone 14 to be updated to iOS 16.1 or newer.
