According to data from Counterpoint Research, iPhone sales in the Vietnamese market experienced significant growth in the second quarter of 2022. Specifically, the number of iPhones sold increased by 115% compared to the same period last year, contributing to Apple holding a 15.4% market share. Meanwhile, most other brands recorded either declining sales or modest growth.OPPO, the sole Chinese brand, records a sales growth of 25.4% thanks to its mid-range phone models, capturing a 20.7% market share. Other brands like vivo, Xiaomi, etc., all experience a decrease in sales in the Vietnamese market.Despite still holding the highest market share (38.4%), Samsung's sales growth has been relatively low, increasing by only 3.5% compared to the previous year. Additionally, the company has had to reduce phone production volume at its domestic manufacturing facility. Samsung's sales mainly come from the affordable and mid-range Galaxy A and M series.According to statistics, in Vietnam, sales of affordable smartphones have decreased by 1%, reaching only 3.2 million units compared to the previous year. However, smartphones priced above 400 USD have increased by 75% compared to the same period. Especially, gaming smartphones have also been noted for their high growth rate.Analyst Akash Jatwala suggests that the iPhone 11, iPhone 12 Pro Max, and Samsung's Galaxy S series are driving forces for sales in the high-end market. Additionally, high iPhone sales result from Apple's strategy of reducing prices for some older models and expanding its official distribution network in Vietnam.Looking ahead, Counterpoint expects smartphone sales to grow even stronger towards the end of the year with the release of the iPhone 14 and the Lunar New Year shopping season.Apple is currently experimenting with manufacturing Apple Watch and MacBook Pro in Vietnam, while also transitioning iPad production lines from China to Vietnam this year.Source: AppleInsider
