I've read numerous articles online claiming that Lương Sơn Quán is like a dagger slashing into the face of the urban landscape of the Capital because of its unconventional style. Anything out of the ordinary tends to draw attention and scrutiny.
Since I was young, I've been fascinated by the 108 heroes of Lương Sơn Bạc in the legendary period drama Thủy Hử, so I've always dreamed of one day sitting in a setting reminiscent of the scenes from the movie, sharing drinks and stories just like the heroes in the film.
Last week, some colleagues and I visited a renowned restaurant with a style akin to that of Thủy Hử at the Thái Hà area called Lương Sơn Quán. This place gained fame because during its initial opening period, it was covered extensively by various newspapers. Some described it as a “dagger slashing into the urban landscape,” while others praised its unique style.
Exploring Lương Sơn Quán: Separating Fact from Fiction
With so much praise and criticism, I couldn't miss the chance to experience it myself and see if this 'dagger slashing into the urban landscape' truly captures the essence of Lương Sơn Bạc. Although I've seen images of Lương Sơn Quán online, nothing prepared me for the surprises that awaited upon arrival.
At first glance, Lương Sơn Quán stands out among the neighboring upscale restaurants for its avant-garde approach.
The first surprise was its incredibly unique and avant-garde style, completely different from the high-rise eateries nearby. Lương Sơn Quán truly stands apart with its distinctiveness and uniqueness. The exterior is adorned with the lush greenery of nature, with towering bamboo reaching up to the third floor of the building, and colorful flower pots hanging high above.
The entrance adorned with fresh roses and illuminated stairways with sparkling candles surely delights every woman; it's a charming feature. Right in the center of the restaurant is a small pond with lush water lilies, surrounded by potato plants and green bamboo.

Whether seated indoors or outdoors, I felt intimately connected with nature. Despite the scorching heat nearing 40 degrees Celsius, the interior remained cool and airy. My friends and I opted for outdoor seating under a palm-leaf canopy to avoid inconveniencing others if we happened to be a bit too loud.
Each dining table offers a variety of options, from large wooden tables crafted from trees over 50 years old to tables set by the window with a direct view of Thái Hà Street. There are even tables made from large banana leaves. Each table is equipped with chopstick holders made from burnt bamboo, ceramic bowls with a golden tint, and clay cups for drinking wine.
We give our all together
The alcohol here is served in ceramic jars similar to those the heroes of Lương Sơn often drink from. Our group of ten finished five jars of golden flower rice wine here. According to the manager, the alcohol is sourced directly from the countryside, ensuring quality. It's undeniable that the alcohol here is potent; you drink, and you know it. Listening to Thủy Hử music while drinking only enhances the experience.
Indulge in camaraderie amidst the cool greenery
Men like us often prefer rustic, open places like Lương Sơn Quán to freely enjoy drinking without worrying about prying eyes or disturbing anyone, unlike in upscale restaurants. I find that criticisms are often based on external appearances without experiencing what's inside. But surely, if they were to step inside, their opinions would change.
The variety of dishes here is astounding, each one perfectly complemented with fine wine.
The dishes offered are incredibly diverse and paired with exquisite wines. Despite the bustling restaurant, our wait was well worth it as each dish was meticulously crafted and seasoned. The staff were courteous and eager to assist, aside from the slight delay in service due to the crowd, we were thoroughly satisfied. It was indeed a splendidly successful wine feast.
