Microsoft is urging users to update to Windows 11 (Image: Windows Report)Microsoft recently rolled out a new update, strongly urging computer users running Windows 10 with compatible configurations to upgrade to Windows 11. This marks Microsoft's latest move following the announcement to end support for Windows 10 by 2025.
Microsoft is committed to assisting you in updating to Windows 11. The most recent approach is the Windows 10 update accessible to users. In fact, a new update with version number 'KB5020683' has been released. When installed, this update will provide a new Out-of-Box Experience (OOBE) screen.
Standard OOBE screen (Image: Microsoft)OOBE is a collection of screens that appear when your computer boots up, typically prompting you to complete actions such as accepting license agreements, connecting your computer to the internet, or logging in with your Microsoft ID.
With the latest update, the OOBE screen has been revamped. Microsoft has opted to display certain pages to introduce Windows 11 and prompt you to download and install the company's new operating system version (for free).

Most importantly, your machine must be capable of running Windows 11. In other words, your Windows 10 PC must meet Microsoft's requirements for installing Windows 11. You cannot update without a PC with TPM 2.0.
Why is Microsoft insisting you upgrade to Windows 11? The reason is simply to prepare for the end of support for Windows 10. On October 14, 2025, the operating system launched in 2015 will no longer receive official support. Therefore, Microsoft will cease providing operating system updates from this date onwards. Microsoft will also officially end support for Windows 8/8.1 on January 10.
