This game, which my friend and I pooled money to buy and play on Xbox during the 3-month lockdown due to the recent pandemic, has brought us moments of relaxation, laughter, and joy. It's been a while since I've experienced such carefree enjoyment, and it all came from a video game.
A Sneak Peek into the Storyline
The storyline of It Takes Two revolves around a family composed of Cody and May, a married couple, and their young daughter Rose, approximately 7-8 years old. In the game, we observe the conflict between the couple, stemming from feeling neglected by each other. Eventually, they both come to the decision to divorce.
Rose witnesses it all and naturally feels immense pain. She rushes to the attic to cry, and in this moment, she picks up two dolls, acting out a scenario where her parents reconcile and come back together. Suddenly, a mysterious curse befalls Cody and May, turning them into dolls.
Gameplay Mechanics
The game requires 2 players, embodying Cody and May, so you should find a compatible partner to play with. In the game, the screen will be split vertically in half. Throughout the journey of the game, the challenges to overcome not only rely on platforming skills but also require a bit of wit to solve puzzles.Rewards and Benefits
- Enjoyment: Playing with my buddy at work, it's been ages since I laughed and had such a blast. The times when we kept failing at jumps or got stuck for what felt like forever, then finally overcoming it felt like winning the World Cup. I reckon if couples or lovers played this together, it would be even more fantastic.
- Life Lessons: Throughout the storyline, you continuously glean lessons from Cody and May's journey—promises, responsibilities, trust... Surely, after completing the game, everyone will draw their own life lesson about living and loving.
It Takes Two is available on various platforms, from PC to Playstation and Xbox, so you can comfortably purchase and play it if you own any of these devices. It would be great if it were also available on Switch, that would be awesome hehe.
