In the latest episode of Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 aired yesterday, fans, still recovering from the impact of Kento Nanami's death, now have to say goodbye to Nobara Kugisaki. This heart-wrenching truth makes viewers find it truly challenging to accept.
Certainly, Nobara's departure is perhaps one of the most famous revelations in Jujutsu Kaisen. For manga readers who already knew this unhappy future, witnessing it once again in the anime still feels incredibly sorrowful.
According to the latest developments in episode 19 of the anime, disregarding Kento Nanami's warning that only a Grade 1 sorcerer can face Mahito in battle, Nobara bravely confronts the antagonist. After an initially effective attack, Mahito's clone flees simultaneously with the original, escaping Yuji Itadori's pursuit.
Finally, as they all gather in the train station corridor, when the clone charges towards Yuji and instantly dies, the original Mahito takes advantage of Nobara's distracted state to approach and fatally strike her.
In the precarious balance of a life hanging by a thread, Nobara begins to witness her existence flashing before her eyes. She reminisces about days in the countryside with her friends Saori and Fumi. Nobara realizes that in her life, she has had many good companions. She apologizes to Fumi for not being able to keep the promise of meeting both of them in the future and returns to the present.
Turning to Yuji, she requests him to tell everyone that her life wasn't as bad. Mahito, using his cursed power, distorts Nobara's face and destroys one of her eyes while Yuji can only stand by helplessly.
In the original manga, what happened to Nobara Kugisaki remains unclear. There's no certainty whether she is alive or has met her demise.
Some believe this is one of the biggest mysteries of the series, and surely, author Gege Akutami will leverage this trump card at some point in the future.
