1. Vital tips to remember when using your citizen ID card
The Ministry of Public Security is currently in the process of issuing chip-embedded citizen ID cards. According to information from the Ministry of Public Security, the chip on the card is used to store each citizen's information. This will facilitate citizens in traveling, conducting administrative procedures, and help enhance the efficiency of e-Government with integrated citizen tracking features.
The use of information on the chip still complies with current Vietnamese laws, ensuring personal information security and data safety.
It's crucial to be aware of information related to the expiration date of the chip-embedded ID card. According to the 2014 Citizen ID Card Law, the Ministry of Public Security issues a model of chip-embedded ID cards with expiry dates according to Article 21:
+ ID cards must be renewed when citizens reach 25, 40, and 60 years old.
+ If you renew your ID card within 2 years before the designated age, it will still be valid until the next renewal age. This applies to both barcode and chip-embedded citizen ID cards, lasting until individuals turn 25, 40, and 60. If issued earlier within those age ranges, you can still use the card until the next age milestones.
For citizens who have reached 60 years, the ID card's validity will be lifelong, in case of non-loss or damage.
Additionally, Article 4 of Decree 06/2021/TT-BCA and the 2014 Citizen ID Card Law stipulate: ID cards with barcodes issued before the local implementation of chip-embedded citizen ID cards remain valid until expiration.
Therefore, if citizens possess old-style national ID cards or citizen ID cards with remaining validity, there is no obligation to switch to chip-embedded ID cards.
