The Laos government sets the reopening date for welcoming tourists back from 1/1/2022 through the approval of the tourism green zone implementation plan. This marks Laos's significant endeavor in reopening the country after an extended closure due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Laos initiates international tourism for 17 countries starting January 2022

Earlier, on December 17th, the Laotian Times quoted the Ministry of Information, Culture, and Tourism of Laos announcing the country's reopening in three phases. The first phase starts from 1-1-2022, followed by the next phase on 1-4-2022, and the final one on 1-7-2022.
During phase 1, Laos will open its doors to 17 countries, including Vietnam and many ASEAN neighboring countries, alongside several European countries, China, the United States, Australia, and Canada.
Ms. Suansavanh Viyaketh – Minister of the Ministry of Information, Culture, and Tourism of Laos, stated that the initial regions listed in the tourism green zones include the capital Vientiane, Vientiane province, Luang Prabang, Champasak, Khammuan, Xieng Khuang, Oudomxay, and Xayaboury.

Accordingly, travelers entering Laos for tourism purposes must meet certain requirements: Booking a complete tour package in the tourism green zone, declaring information, travel itinerary online; purchasing Covid-19 insurance; having a vaccination certificate and a negative SARS-CoV-2 test result within 72 hours before entry.
Furthermore, tourists arriving in Laos will undergo a 24-hour quarantine at a hotel designated by the Covid-19 Committee to await test results. If the result is negative, tourists can proceed to the tourism green zone; however, if it's positive, tourists must undergo a 3-day quarantine before retesting.
