- Upon completing the inspection/certification, a Certificate of Inspection is issued for the vehicle along with an inspection sticker affixed to it.
- Vehicle owners are responsible for complying with the vehicle registration inspection requirements as prescribed by law.
2. Vehicle Registration Renewal Period
The details of the renewal period have been outlined in Appendix XI accompanying Circular 16/2021/TT-BGTVT for each type of automobile as follows:
(1) Non-commercial Passenger Vehicles up to 9 Seats
- Vehicles manufactured up to 7 years: initial cycle 30 months, subsequent cycles 18 months.
- Vehicles manufactured over 7 years but less than 12 years: every 12 months.
- Vehicles manufactured over 12 years: every 6 months.
(2) Passenger cars for transportation businesses with up to 9 seats
- Produced up to 5 years: initial cycle is 24 months, periodic is 12 months
- Produced over 5 years: periodic is 6 months.
- Modified vehicles: initial cycle is 12 months, periodic is 6 months.
(3) Passenger cars with over 9 seats
For unmodified vehicles, the initial cycle is 18 months, for modified vehicles, the initial cycle is 12 months. Both types have a periodic cycle of 6 months.

3. Guidelines for Car Inspection Procedures
3.1. Conducted at any motor vehicle inspection center
- According to Article 1 of Article 5 of Circular 16/2021/TT-BGTVT, the process of vehicle registration inspection can be conducted at any inspection unit nationwide. This creates convenience and initiative for car owners when going for inspection.

3.2. Inspection Procedures
This procedure is carried out in accordance with the provisions of Article 6, Article 8 of Circular 16/2021/TT-BGTVT. Basically, it will be conducted as follows:
(1) Vehicle dossier preparation
Vehicle documentation includes the following papers:
- Vehicle registration papers or Appointment Letter for Registration Certificate issuance. Vehicle registration papers are either the original registration certificate or the receipt for holding the original registration certificate if the vehicle is currently pledged to a financial institution.
- Quality inspection certificate for domestically manufactured or assembled vehicles (except for scrapped vehicles) - copy;
- Certificate of technical safety and environmental protection for modified motor vehicles.
(2) Inspection at the inspection unit
* Vehicle owner prepares the following documents upon arrival at the inspection unit:
- Documentation related to vehicle registration or Appointment Letter for Registration Certificate issuance.
- Certificate of technical safety and environmental protection for modified motor vehicles.
- Information on login credentials, passwords, and the address of the electronic device management information website for monitoring devices, cameras => If the vehicle falls under the category requiring installation of monitoring devices, cameras.
- Record keeping form (template in Appendix I Circular 16/2021)
* Inspection unit receiving documents and conducting inspections in order:
- Place the vehicle on the inspection line and verify the compliance between technical specifications and the actual vehicle; inspect technical safety and environmental protection of the vehicle; evaluate inspection results => Record and send inspection results to the server immediately after completing inspection at each stage.
- If requirements are met, issue the Inspection Certificate and affix the Inspection Seal to the vehicle.
