With the most recent update of Microsoft Edge for iOS, the web browser enables users to open the application directly from the iPhone lock screen using Siri virtual assistant shortcuts. This feature was introduced with the release of iOS 12 in September last year.
In addition to Siri shortcut support, the latest Microsoft Edge update for iOS also brings additional enhancements and new features. Here is the full changelog from the release on the Apple App Store:
- Press and hold buttons on the bottom bar to view quick actions.
- Launch the browser directly from the iPhone lock screen via Siri virtual assistant shortcuts.
- Use the browser widget on the Today screen for quick access to actions and top websites.
- When reopening Microsoft Edge, choose to continue from where you left off or start with a new tab.
- Performance improvements.
The features listed here are just a few of the many enhancements on recent updates of web browsers for iOS in the past few months. Other features such as image search and news notifications, as well as book annotations, are currently in beta testing.
