Leaked: Apple Orders 120 Million OLED Panels from Samsung for Future iPad Production

The gradual shift from LCD to OLED that Apple has undertaken with the iPhone could very well extend to the iPad in the coming years. According to unofficial sources, Samsung has just received an order from Apple to produce 120 million OLED panels for future iPad assembly. This information was cited by The Korea Times in a recent article. While BOE Technology from China is still grappling with improving the quality of OLED screen panels supplied to Apple for their future iPhone and iPad models, Apple is forced to find ways to diversify its component supply.

Last Sunday, a high-ranking executive in South Korea, privy to Apple's plans, disclosed the number of panels that Apple has ordered from both Samsung Display and LG Display:

When it comes to securing the supply of crucial components, Samsung remains at the forefront, having clinched a monumental deal for 120 million OLED panels destined for future iPads. However, Apple is also showing favoritism towards LG Display by placing an order for 50 million OLED panels, effectively doubling its previous procurement.

Meanwhile, BOE is set to manufacture OLED panels for use in refurbished iPads, though it remains uncertain whether they will continue producing OLED panels for iPhones. The first generation of iPad OLEDs is slated for release in 2023, yet rumors suggest an earlier debut in 2022.
