If you want delicious sticky rice, start with quality grains. Opt for white glutinous rice with a firm texture and a fragrant aroma. Rinse the rice thoroughly and let it drain.

To achieve the striking purple hue, you'll need the assistance of pandan leaves (readily available at local markets). After thoroughly washing each leaf, soak them in water and add salt at a ratio of 1 liter of water to approximately 3 – 3.5 grams of salt.
Preparing the pandan leaf-infused water for glutinous rice soaking
Bring the pandan leaf water to a rolling boil. After about 5 – 7 minutes, remove from heat and strain out the leaf residue. Allow the pandan water to cool slightly before adding the glutinous rice. Ensure that the amount of pandan water covers the rice by at least 3cm to allow room for expansion during cooking.
If preparing in the evening, you can soak the glutinous rice overnight. The optimal soaking time is 6 – 8 hours.

For the tastiest and fluffiest sticky rice, it's best to cook it over high heat. If you don't have a traditional bamboo steamer, you can use an electric rice cooker as a substitute, but the texture and taste may not be as optimal.
Add coconut milk and sugar to make the sticky rice more creamy and flavorful.
Once the sticky rice grains are soft to the touch, you can add the coconut milk and mix well. Let it cook for another 15 minutes, then add a bit of sugar if you prefer sweeter and tastier sticky rice.
