In the world of martial arts novels, there exist legendary masters who have created their own unparalleled styles, making them unbeatable. Among them are Doan Tu Binh and Mo Dung Long Thanh.
Doan Tu Binh
In the novel 'The Legend of the Condor Heroes', Doan Tri Hung, the master, tells Quach Tinh and Hoang Dung: 'Our Dai Ly nation was established by the Divine Emperor Van Vu De in the year Ding You, which is 23 years earlier than when Tong's ancestor, Trieu Khuong Dan, rebelled in Tran Kieu wearing the royal robe...'.
The Divine Emperor Van Vu De mentioned by Doan Tri Hung here is none other than Doan Tu Binh, the founder of the Dai Ly dynasty. According to the master, 'Our Doan family has a good destiny, but we are just a small piece on the border who managed to steal the throne. Each generation knows their talents and virtues are insufficient to handle great responsibilities, thus they always feel fearful and hesitant, never daring to exceed their limits.
Doan Tu Binh is not only a politician but also the founder of the Dai Ly Doan Thi sect. After establishing his rule, Doan Tu Binh devoted himself to Buddhism, founding the Thien Long Pagoda to protect Dai Ly, and creating extraordinary martial arts such as the Six Vein Divine Sword and the One Yang Needle. Among them, the Six Vein Divine Sword is the unique martial art of Thien Long Pagoda.
The martial arts skills of the Doan family are incredibly powerful, earning them the highest respect in the martial world. In later years, Doan Tu Binh's descendants, Doan Du, wielded the Six Vein Divine Sword with unmatched proficiency, astonishing the martial arts community by defeating even Mộ Dung Phục, a renowned master praised as 'Mộ Dung in the south, Kiều Phong in the north'. Meanwhile, Doan Tri Hung, unable to master the Six Vein Divine Sword, only practiced the One Yang Needle, yet still rose to fame and was ranked among the top 5 most formidable martial artists of his time, known as the Southern Emperor in the martial world's five elites or the world's five wonders. This illustrates the extraordinary prowess of Doan Tu Binh's martial arts.
Mộ Dung Long Thành
When it comes to the name Mộ Dung Long Thành, many readers of Kim Dung's novels may not be familiar, but Mộ Dung Bác and Mộ Dung Phục are well-known characters from Kim Dung's 'The Heaven Sword and Dragon Saber' series. They are descendants of the Yen Kingdom during the Sixteen Kingdoms period.
The ancestral lineage of Mộ Dung belongs to the Tiên Ty family from ancient times. During the chaos of the Five Lakes and Four Seas, the Mộ Dung family in Central Nguyên suppressed the Northern barbarians, establishing the early Yen dynasties - Former Yen, Later Yen, Southern Yen, and Western Yen.
After the collapse of the Northern Nguỵ dynasty, the Mộ Dung family dispersed, spreading far and wide, yet they passed down through generations the aspiration for national rejuvenation. However, through the Tùy and Đường dynasties, the Mộ Dung family gradually declined, and the desire to restore the Great Yen Kingdom became increasingly obscure.
It was not until the end of the Five Dynasties that Mộ Dung Long Thành emerged, a remarkably talented figure rarely seen in a hundred lifetimes. He created the Transmutation of Celestial Changes, a martial art technique as mysterious as 'using one's staff to strike one's own back' that defies explanation.
Regardless of the opponent's martial arts, weapons, or hidden techniques used, they can all be turned against the opponent themselves. The higher the martial skill of the attacker, the more miraculous the death, where the true skill lies in manipulating the opponent's weapons and movements, making them harm themselves. The Transmutation of Celestial Changes bears striking resemblance to the Great Na Di technique of the Ming Cult, redirecting the enemy's force back onto themselves.
With this supreme skill, Mộ Dung Long Thành swiftly rose to become an unbeatable master, renowned throughout the land. He never forgot his ancestors' teachings, determined to achieve great feats and revive the Yen Kingdom. However, in the grand scheme of things, the world's divisions inevitably lead to unity. Trieu Khuong Dan established the Great Song dynasty, bringing peace to the four corners, and prosperity reigned. Despite his formidable martial prowess, ultimately, he did not build a legacy and died with regret.
Although rarely mentioned, Mộ Dung Long Thành is highly regarded compared to many other martial arts masters in Kim Dung's novels. His technique of exchanging attack and defense seems simple yet is incredibly mystical. Its practitioner requires a high level of physical and mental discipline, along with a deep understanding of various martial arts, to counterattack at the right moment. If Độc Cô Cầu Bại's sword strikes make it difficult for the enemy to survive, Mộ Dung Long Thành is likened to the most unique defensive wall, where the enemy's attacks feel like hitting oneself, revealing its terrifying nature.
Unfortunately, the life of Mộ Dung Long Thành was rather short-lived, barely having the chance to compete with the world before bitterly departing.
