Lençóis Maranhenses National Park - The most evident proof that deserts can still be paradises.
Lençóis Maranhenses National Park, located in Maranhão state, on the northeastern coast of Brazil, may leave many astonished by the creative prowess of nature. The photos of this place often lead many to mistake it for an intricately crafted artificial pool amidst the vast expanse of white sand desert.
However, Lençóis Maranhenses is a completely natural park with smooth white sand dunes that can reach heights of nearly 40 meters interspersed with emerald green lagoons. Lençóis Maranhenses presents a rare sight on the planet: both a desert and a tropical paradise.

Every year, Lençóis Maranhenses receives a considerable amount of rainfall, making it difficult to view it as a pristine desert. Water from the rains collects in the depressions, creating countless ponds scattered throughout the sandy desert area, covering an area of over 150 hectares. Few could imagine that this windy and dusty land could conceal such an enchanting 'tropical paradise'.

At certain times of the year, the lagoons can reach depths of over 3m with temperatures around 30°C, transforming into marvelous natural swimming pools.

Visitors to the park can swim in the safely deep lagoons. And if you have the opportunity to immerse yourself in these natural pools, don't be surprised to encounter schools of fish and turtles gracefully swimming, migrants from the two rivers flowing through the park. When the dry season arrives, these creatures vanish without a trace.

Lençóis Maranhenses National Park covers a vast area, still relatively unexplored by tourists despite being open to all for exploration. To reach Lençóis Maranhenses, you can fly to Sao Luis and then travel to the city of Barreirinhas. From there, tourists can rent a Jeep to Lençóis Maranhenses to marvel at the breathtaking beauty of Brazil's landscape.
