Following the leak of the LG H740 screen, users are now receiving new information about the prices of 17 models of the company's smartphones, currently ranging around 150 USD per product.
Apple and Samsung have always been major competitors for smartphone manufacturers worldwide. The constant upgrades and improvements in smartphones have put LG in a challenging position. Consequently, LG has reduced prices for all its premium phone models to compete with Apple and Samsung.
The average selling price of 17 recent smartphone models produced by LG is approximately 150 USD. This price is applicable to customers opting for SK Telecom Co's (South Korea) service package of around 51 USD per subscription.
With a similar package, Samsung's products are priced at 355 USD and 735 USD for iPhone versions from Apple. Figures from SK Telecom Co. indicate that LG is deliberately enticing customers by heavily discounting its premium smartphones. LG's efforts to cut prices aim to inject vitality into its smartphone business segment, which is currently under intense pressure from brands like Samsung, Apple, and Chinese brands.
LG's mobile communications division (including smartphones) achieved revenue of over 3 billion USD in the past quarter, equivalent to the same period in 2014. LG's operating profit declined by 99.7%. LG sold 11.4 million smartphones in the second quarter, a 3% decrease compared to the same period last year.
Thus, it can be seen that LG's revenue has decreased significantly due to the emergence of premium smartphones from Apple and Samsung. It is hoped that in the future, LG will introduce new flagship products to change the current situation.
