LG stores in South Korea to offer iPhones starting August

According to information from the Herald Economic Daily, Apple has reached an agreement with LG to sell iPhones in over 400 LG Best Shop stores across South Korea starting from August. In addition to iPhones, Apple will also introduce Apple Watch and iPad, but it's certain that there won't be Macbooks or Macs, as these products would directly compete with LG's laptops.

Apple and LG were supposed to collaborate earlier, right after LG announced the discontinuation of its mobile division. However, the decision to cooperate faced opposition from various smaller businesses and regulatory bodies who were reluctant to approve, aiming to protect smaller-scale retail stores. Despite the initial resistance, they eventually granted approval for this collaboration.

In South Korea, Samsung dominates with over 67% market share in the smartphone industry, while Apple holds 22% in the first quarter, according to Counterpoint data. LG, previously holding around 10% market share, is now a coveted segment that both Apple and Samsung are eager to capture. Last month, Apple also included LG phones in the list of devices eligible for trade-in in the U.S. LG phone owners trading in for an iPhone can receive up to $180, surpassing Google Pixel and falling short of Galaxy S20.
