If you've been tracking the game rankings on the App Store recently, you may have noticed Liên Quân losing its position.
Liên Quân and Free Fire are two games consistently found at the top of the free games rankings on the App Store. It's not hard to understand given their revenue and download numbers; Liên Quân and Free Fire have almost no competition. However, there are still moments when Liên Quân disappears from the Top 1 spot.
For example, at this moment, Liên Quân has lost the Top 1 position to a newly released mobile MOBA game. This isn't the first time players have witnessed this scenario. Quite some time ago, specifically in April 2019, a new mobile MOBA called AOG - Arena of Glory also claimed the Top 1 spot on the free games rankings on the App Store.
Back then, the game identified itself as “Liên Minh Mobile” and achieved certain milestones. The most significant achievement was undoubtedly taking the Top 1 position on the App Store, surpassing Liên Quân. AOG was confident it would carve out its market share, competing with Mobile Legends: Bang Bang and Liên Quân, albeit on a smaller scale.
But what happened next? The game that held the number 1 spot on the App Store in April 2019 lasted just under a year. This lesson can happen to any mobile MOBA game, not just AOG - Arena of Glory. Because the current mobile MOBA game market is still largely dominated by Liên Quân.
Even Liên Minh: Speed War finds it challenging to establish fair competition and is determined to coexist rather than snatch the 'cake' from Liên Quân. Despite Liên Quân's dominance in just three markets—Vietnam, Thailand, and Taipei, it's undeniable that the player base for this game in Vietnam is incredibly vast.
Now, it's crucial to observe whether the new MOBA game can maintain its position at the top of the App Store rankings for an extended period or if it's merely a 'new game' effect. All will be answered in time; let's wait and see.
