League of Legends: Riot announces halt on mid-patch updates and reworks for Pre-season 2024
Halfway through the 2023 season and Riot is already gearing up for Pre-season 2024. With a massive update on the horizon, Riot has decided to halt champion updates.
On August 28, Riot Games shocked the player community by announcing the removal of Mythic items in the 2024 season. Following this bombshell, on August 29, Riot Meddler announced the postponement of all mid-patch updates and reworks indefinitely. Riot Meddler explained that this decision was made to focus on the development of Pre-season 2024.

Specifically, Riot Meddler stated: 'Riot has allocated all resources towards preparing for Pre-season 2024. If everything goes according to plan, we'll have 50% of Pre-season in November and the remaining 50% in January 2024. After completing all tasks, the team will reassess the postponed updates during this period.'
In addition to reworks, mid-patch updates are crucial to ensure champions remain relevant within the meta. These updates involve deep adjustments to a champion's skill set. For example, in patch 13.11, Ivern underwent changes to his passive mechanism, significantly improving his win rate in professional play.
As a result, many players have expressed concerns about the decision to postpone mid-patch updates. However, Riot Meddler reassured players that Riot will compensate with a major patch to ensure champions are not left behind.
