Microsoft is experimenting with a feature that enables Android users to access the Cortana virtual assistant from their device's lock screen. With the following guide on locking your Android screen using Cortana virtual assistant, you can also achieve that.
Each platform has its own familiar virtual assistant; while iOS has Siri, Android is associated with Google Now. However, when Microsoft announced its plan to use Cortana and Windows Phone on Android, many Android users became curious and eagerly anticipated what they could do.
The activation mechanism of Cortana is also extremely simple, requiring just a gentle swipe on the icon on the lock screen to activate it. With the integration of the virtual assistant, we will be able to alter the quick access function of Google, and at the same time, encourage Android users to switch to using Cortana. To proceed with the setup, let's follow the guide on locking your Android screen using the virtual assistant below.
Lock Your Android Screen with Cortana Virtual Assistant
Step 1: Firstly, to lock your Android screen with the Cortana virtual assistant, you need to download the latest version of the app.
Download Cortana for Android from here.
- Note
- As the app is still in trial version and restricted in some countries, including Vietnam. So, to download, you may choose to download the APK file from the link below, as shown in the description image.
Step 2: After completing the download, simply click on the APK file and proceed with the installation like any other regular APK files.
Step 3: Once the app is activated, the Cortana logo will appear near the bottom of the lock screen. You just need to swipe this logo left or right to open the control panel, then select Settings with the gear icon located at the bottom right corner of the app (similar to how the camera shortcut works on many current Android smartphones).
Step 4: The Settings interface will appear, where you can toggle the Cortana on lock screen button from OFF to ON.
So, you have successfully activated the feature to lock the screen using the Cortana virtual assistant on your Android device. Additionally, this Cortana virtual assistant will work alongside the Android lock screens you've chosen to use previously.
Personal virtual assistants perform well when they can be accessed from anywhere. That's why Microsoft has added a lock screen option for Cortana in Windows 10, and why Google now offers voice activation from the lock screen on current Android phones. For a deeper understanding, you can refer to the article on activating virtual assistant on Windows 10 in the previous article, which will help you enable this feature and experience Windows' 'girl.'
Previously, the app was publicly available and open for participation in the trial program, but now the program has ended. So, it won't be long before users can experience the new feature of this virtual assistant. Wishing you success.
