The implementation of a $1 cleanliness fee per person and the establishment of floating platforms in the sea at Hang Cau have sparked concerns among many tourists, fearing it may erode its intrinsic natural beauty, while the service fee remains inadequate.
Lý Sơn Island Plans to Impose $1 Sanitation Fee for Visitors

On May 9, Mr. Nguyen Dang Vu, Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Quang Ngai, announced that upon receiving the aforementioned information, inspectors were dispatched for investigation. Consequently, the levying of environmental service fees, sand deposition, land leveling, and the establishment of floating amusement areas have been endorsed by the Standing Committee of the District Party Committee and the People's Committee of Ly Son District. Furthermore, preliminary steps have been taken by the enterprise.
However, following the inspection team's demand for the enterprise to formulate and submit an investment and operation plan, the Department has yet to receive any documentation. According to Mr. Vu, 'By May 8, the enterprise had ceased sand deposition in the Hang Cau area due to the lack of permission from the relevant authorities.'

Previously, the sight of erected gates, signboards, sand filling, and the construction of floating houses in the Hang Cau area has left many tourists who have visited here feeling perturbed. 'If they wish to engage in such activities, tourists can visit water parks in Hanoi, or in the South, they can visit Dam Sen. Lý Sơn arouses curiosity due to the innate beauty bestowed by Mother Nature and the warmth of its people, rather than through paid activities,' expressed a tourist with the username Hedgehog Express.
With plans to charge a $1 environmental fee per visitor, many believe this price is not appropriate as the area being cleaned is only Hang Cau. 'If charging for the environment, the district government can also collect an additional $0.25 fee right at the port/tourist area. This would not only make differentiation easy but also eliminate the need for visitors to present their ID cards when visiting Hang Cau,' suggested Truong Dinh, from Ho Chi Minh City.
However, some argue that charging fees does not address the root issue but lies in the awareness of tourists. 'Charging for services at Hang Cau does not truly satisfy locals or tourists visiting here. However, in my opinion, charging fees is necessary to protect the environment and the landscape, and even heavier penalties should be imposed on those who litter when visiting,' stated Le Khanh.
According to Mr. Vu, Hang Cau is located in a marine conservation area, so all activities here need to be carefully considered and calculated.
Hang Cau is located in Dong village, An Hai commune, Ly Son district. Hang Cau has been eroded by waves and sea breezes, 'carved deep' into the mountainside and has formed over thousands of years from basalt. This tourist spot is considered a marvel of rocks in Ly Son.
