Self-confirmation is currently underway following guidelines provided by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and local government directives. Both drivers and passengers will be required to commit to the following:
- They will wear a mask or other face coverings.
- They will not drive or ride with Lyft if they have COVID-19, suspect they have it, or have related symptoms.
- They will maintain cleanliness of the vehicle and regularly sanitize hands.
- They will keep windows open when possible and avoid enclosed air circulation when possible.
- Passengers will not sit in the front seat.
Anyone not adhering to these principles will be banned from using the service. Although Lyft has been providing ride-hailing services for healthcare workers throughout the pandemic, the company's operations have significantly declined. As a result, they laid off nearly 1,000 employees (17% of the workforce) last week.
The new guidelines will significantly impact those drivers or customers who regularly wear glasses, as they may fog up when wearing masks. If you also encounter similar issues, consider tips for wearing a fog-free mask with glasses here.
