Major livestream platform faces disruption, gamers in distress as the 'beauty spotlight' runs out of spots

This saddening announcement raises concerns among many gamers.

For any gamer, a livestream platform is always a fascinating source of entertainment, providing not only important news and events but also a playground for interaction with celebrities. Among them, Twitch stands out as a leading name. Launched over a decade ago, this 'giant' has achieved impressive milestones in the gaming and entertainment industry, constantly growing at an enviable pace. Until now, Twitch has amassed a loyal user base, including numerous superstars, artists, and renowned KOLs worldwide.

However, these remarkable achievements do not necessarily guarantee Twitch's ability to sustain long-term operations while 'overlooking' difficulties. Recently, the platform had to 'bid farewell' to the Korean market with deep regret. Moreover, the reasons provided seem unbelievably surprising at the moment.

As most of us are aware, South Korea stands as the 'golden mine' potential of the Esports industry, hosting a multitude of tournaments, events, world-class teams, and gamers. However, the network costs in this country are 10 times higher than in most other nations, putting service platforms in constant financial hardship. Starting from February 27, 2024, streamers will no longer be able to earn money, and buying and selling activities will be restricted for users in South Korea. By June 4, 2024, Twitch will officially be discontinued in the land of Kimchi, a permanent 'farewell.'

Despite previous attempts, such as reducing the maximum quality to 720p60, the results have not been promising as the development team had hoped. In reality, Korean streamers still have other options like AfreecaTV or YouTube to operate. Therefore, the most disappointed ones are international gamers, losing a familiar free broadcasting source.

Fortunately, this decision only applies to South Korea, and there are no similar signs globally. Nevertheless, losing a valuable 'treasure trove' disappoints many gamers at this moment.
