Almond oil is commonly used to hydrate and nourish the skin and hair, and it's a key ingredient in many beauty products. However, it can also be employed in cooking. If you're interested in creating your own almond oil, all you need is a blender and a little patience. Alternatively, you can invest in an oil press for a more dedicated approach to homemade almond oil production.
Required Ingredients
Using a Blender to Make Almond Oil
- 2 cups of raw almonds
- 1-2 teaspoons of olive oil
Utilizing an Oil Press
- 2 cups of almonds, roasted
Procedure
Creating Almond Oil Using a Blender
Begin by placing the almonds into your blender. Ensure the almonds are dry and fresh, and make sure your blender is clean and prepared for use.
Start blending at a low speed initially.
Begin the blending process at a low speed to ensure the almonds are blended gradually and carefully. Starting at high speed can make blending more challenging at the beginning.
Pause blending to remove any build-up. While blending, you may notice the almonds forming a ball shape and accumulating on the sides of the blender. Stop blending periodically to scrape off the build-up and incorporate it back into the mixture. Repeat this step as needed during blending.
Gradually increase the blending speed. Once the almonds start to blend more smoothly, raise the blender speed to medium or high. This will expedite the blending process.
Incorporate olive oil when the almonds are well blended. After achieving a creamy almond paste consistency, add a teaspoon of olive oil to facilitate blending. If needed, add another teaspoon of oil for smoother blending.
Store the blended almonds properly. Transfer the blended almonds into a storage container, such as a glass jar or Tupperware, and refrigerate for approximately 2 weeks. This allows the almond oil to separate from the almond meal.
Collect the oil. Extract the oil efficiently by tilting the container to let it drip into another container. Alternatively, use a sieve or strainer to separate the oil from the almonds.
Utilizing an Oil Press
Position the almonds in the oil press. Invest in an oil press for thorough blending, although it may come at a higher cost than a blender. Mount the press securely on a table or sturdy surface.
Operate the crank. Turn the crank slowly to begin extracting oil from the roasted almonds. Unlike with a blender, you won't encounter issues with oil build-up on the sides of the device.
Catch the oil with a cup. Position a cup beneath the almonds to collect the oil as it's released. The longer you crank the press, the easier it becomes.
Applying Almond Oil
Moisturize your face with almond oil. Almond oil serves as an excellent daily moisturizer, softening dry or rough skin while offering additional protection. Apply about 1/2 a teaspoon of almond oil onto your face after wetting your hands with warm water. Allow the oil to absorb into your skin without rinsing it off.
Create a facial mask with almond oil. Mix almond oil, honey, and lemon juice to form a paste for a nourishing facial mask. Apply the mask to your face in the morning and leave it on for 30 minutes before washing it off with warm water.
Use almond oil as a facial scrub. Create a scrub by mixing almond oil with salt or sugar until it forms a paste. Gently massage the mixture onto your face using your fingertips, then rinse with warm water. Avoid excessive rubbing to prevent skin irritation.
Use almond oil as a conditioner. Apply a teaspoon of almond oil to wet hair, combing it through thoroughly. Cover your hair and leave the oil on for 30 minutes before washing with shampoo.
Apply almond oil to dry hair. Treat your hair with almond oil by applying half a teaspoon to your palms, then evenly distributing it through your hair. Use almond oil sparingly to maintain sleekness and prevent split ends.
Create homemade lip balm with almond oil. Make your own lip balm by melting together shea butter, coconut oil, almond oil, and beeswax. Pour the mixture into lip balm tubes and allow it to set for 24 hours before use.
