No need for additional third-party apps; the built-in Data Usage feature on Android helps you efficiently manage 3G usage. When exceeding the monthly data limit, Data Usage will display notifications and automatically disable the 3G connection on your device.
Access the Settings >Data usage section to reach the interface for tracking used 3G data. Look at the chart and slide the two white bars to define the time range for checking the data usage. Below the chart, exact dates and corresponding 3G usage during that period will be displayed. Alternatively, track monthly usage by clicking on the Data usage cycle box above and selecting the desired month.
To enable the monthly 3G data limit feature, mark the Set mobile data limit option. On the chart below, slide the two orange (Warning) and red (Limit) bars to set the permitted monthly data usage.
In this scenario, the orange bar is preset at a certain data limit, for example, 200MB. Once your 3G usage reaches this 200MB threshold, the Android notification bar will display a Data usage warning alerting you. From there, you can manage your usage appropriately.
The red bar sets the maximum data limit you can use in a month. Upon exceeding this limit, a Mobile data disable dialog box will appear. Press OK to deactivate 3G on your device, or press Re-enable data to reactivate the counter and continue using 3G as usual.
By default, the 3G counter initiates on the 10th of each month. You can modify the monthly data counting start date by clicking on the Data usage cycle box, selecting Change cycle, and choosing a different date. Moreover, on the Data usage screen, there's a Mobile data section enabling manual control of the 3G connection. Press OFF to disable 3G or ON to enable it. If you're not using 3G, it's advisable to turn it off to conserve battery.
If you want to check your Wi-Fi usage, press the Menu button, mark the Show Wi-Fi usage box. The Data usage interface will include an additional Wi-Fi tab for you to monitor internet usage via Wi-Fi.
