Mằng Lăng Church – A Historic Religious Architectural Site in Phú Yên

Phú Yên is renowned not only for its breathtaking natural landscapes and rich cultural heritage but also for its unique ancient architectural structures. Among these historical landmarks in Phú Yên, one cannot overlook Mằng Lăng Church, which has a history of over a hundred years.

The name Mằng Lăng of the church originates from a flower species found in this area. When constructing this church, the surrounding area was sparsely populated, mainly consisting of trees. Particularly, there were numerous beautiful purple flowers with the same family as the bằng lăng flower, so the locals named this flower 'mằng lăng'. This name was also bestowed upon the church.

Notably, Mằng Lăng Church is recognized as the site where the first Vietnamese-language book in our country, written by the priest Alexandre de Rhodes, is preserved. The book, titled “Phép giảng tám ngày” (Eight-Day Sermons), can be witnessed firsthand when visiting the church.

Don't miss out on Mằng Lăng Church when visiting Phú Yên. It's been a historical landmark in this area for over 100 years (built in 1892).
