As of now, Nintendo estimates that Mario Kart Tour has been downloaded over 20 million times across iOS and Android devices. Within the first 24 hours of its launch on Wednesday, Mario Kart Tour surpassed numerous competitors and even Pokemon GO with 6.7 million downloads.
According to data from Sensor Tower
Mario Kart Tour ranks as Nintendo's third highest-grossing free-to-play mobile game in terms of player spending, earning approximately $1 million in its first 24 hours, trailing behind Super Mario Run and the current record holder, Fire Emblem Heroes ($4.3 million).
Mario Kart Tour takes players on a global journey, racing through major cities like New York, Tokyo, Paris, and other famous landmarks worldwide. Players also encounter familiar characters and a variety of Kart vehicles that have been Nintendo's companions throughout its development.
The microtransaction system in Mario Kart Tour includes a gacha-like mechanism to unlock characters, Kart vehicles, and gliders, along with a monthly Gold Pass subscription priced at $4.99/£4.99, enabling players to unlock additional rewards in the game.
Nintendo plans to introduce a Multiplayer mode for Mario Kart Tour in upcoming updates, allowing players to compete with friends, family, or new acquaintances. Currently, you can only add friends in Mario Kart Tour, with hopes that the Multiplayer feature will be updated as soon as possible.
