Microsoft Outlook is an email client solution within the Microsoft Office suite, supporting not only Microsoft email formats like Outlook Mail and Hotmail but also facilitating Exchange services for other commonly used email services like Gmail and Yahoo Mail. Outlook uses email transfer protocols, allowing users to send and receive emails across different mail services on a unified interface.
However, a drawback of Microsoft Outlook is the inability to display the read status of emails, even after clicking to read the content. This inconvenience arises from the lack of habit in ticking emails as read, making it challenging to manage and differentiate between old and new emails in our inbox. Mytour will provide guidance on marking emails as read in Microsoft Outlook.
Changing Read Status of Emails in Microsoft Outlook
In the usual manner, for an email, after reading and wishing to mark it as read, follow these steps:
Step 1:
Step 2: Select any unread email
As you can see, even when clicking to read an email, the display status remains unchanged. To mark an email as read, right-click on the email and choose Mark as Read
However, this is a manual method. You can immediately change the read status of an email when clicking on it to read. Follow these steps:
Step 1: On the main Outlook interface, click File
Step 2: Click Options
Step 3: In the Options window, select Mail, click Reading Pane
Step 4: Check the box Mark items as read when viewed in the Reading Pane, enter the value 0 in the box below.
The default value of this option is 5. We change it to 0. This means that, before the change, when clicking on an email, it will automatically be marked as read after 5 seconds of viewing in the Reading Pane. Setting the value to 0 will immediately mark the email as read when the user clicks on it to view the content.
Click Ok to complete. Proceed to receive emails and try again.
In this article, besides learning how to mark the read status of emails in Outlook, you can also apply these options to customize for convenient email browsing. To use Outlook software most effectively, it is recommended to create your own Outlook email for connection and shared usage across Microsoft services.
