Marvel at the Bayon temple with its '1 - 0 - 2' architecture
The Bayon temple is one of the unique architectural wonders of Cambodia. The temple comprises 54 towers of various sizes, each adorned with sculptures of the deity Lokesvara – symbolizing divine observation over Cambodia's four directions. The tallest central tower, standing at 43 meters, initially designed as a cross-shaped sanctuary, was later fully redesigned to a circular structure.

This is considered the 'precious gem' of Khmer architecture, leaving a significant imprint on both locals and visitors. The Bayon Temple is located over 1 km from the main entrance of Angkor Thom, adorned with intricate stone carvings. The structure of this monument consists of three levels; however, due to the effects of time and external factors, many architectural elements have collapsed, eroded, and scattered stone blocks.

The lower two levels are designed in a square shape, adorned with intricate bas-reliefs on the walls. The third level features a circular layout with numerous towers, each stone face depicting the observing deity.

The corridors of the lower level are a precious art treasure, housing 11,000 relief carvings on stone walls, stretching 1200 meters long. The content relates to both history and mythology, depicting royal processions, famous battles with Champa, as well as scenes portraying the daily life and culture of a civilization long buried.

The architecture of the Bayon temple exhibits a baroque style, distinct from the classical style of the entire Angkor complex. The resemblance between the carved faces on Bayon's towers and other statues of King Jayavarman VII leads many to believe that these are depictions of the king himself.

Inside the temple, there are two concentric galleries on the lower level and one on the upper level. Observing the temple as a whole, visitors will notice that Bayon sprawls horizontally like a pile of rocks seemingly reaching for the sky.

Here, visitors will sense the uniqueness and energy that the architecture brings, with the sight of the stone-carved faces before them. Many theories suggest that the images of the multi-directional faces symbolize the gods watching over all directions to bring salvation, while one face bears an extremely mysterious smile, located on the central tower.
