Mark your calendars! Spider-Man Across the Spider-Verse will hit theaters on June 2nd, 2023.
The cosmic journey of 'Spider-Man' Miles Morales has officially kicked off!
Recently, Sony Pictures unveiled the second trailer for Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, the sequel to the award-winning animated blockbuster, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, which won the 2019 Oscars.
Across the Spider-Verse will continue to follow the journey of Miles Morales, one of Marvel's most iconic Spider-Man versions, alongside Peter Parker. This time, Miles will have the chance to explore a vast multiverse and encounter countless Spider-Man variations, similar to the first movie but on a much larger scale.

The trailer snippet above reveals that in this multiverse adventure, Miles Morales will continue to journey alongside some of his old friends, notably Gwen Stacy and Peter B. Parker, all being different versions of Spider-Man from alternate realities. Notably, Mayday Parker, Peter's firstborn daughter with Mary Jane in the comic original, makes an appearance. Hence, Across the Spider-Verse seems to be set a few years after the events of the first movie.
The latter half of the trailer showcases Sony's immense ambition for this project, as they thrust Miles Morales into a multiversal battle among countless different versions of Spider-Man. Marvel comic fans may recognize prominent characters like Kaine Parker, Scarlet Spider, Superior Spider-Man, and Spider-Punk. And of course, we cannot forget Spider-Man 2099, a character teased in the post-credits scene of Into the Spider-Verse.

Additionally, according to some sources, the Spider-Man version from Insomniac's popular Spider-Man game series will also make an appearance in the upcoming blockbuster to further expand Sony's Spider-Verse. This implies that there may be more than one version of Miles Morales appearing in this film.
Furthermore, the trailer also brings forth a variant with a costume very similar to the Spider-Man version portrayed by Andrew Garfield. However, whether the actor will indeed return to this role remains a mystery that we may only unravel after Across the Spider-Verse officially debuts.

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is the brainchild of the trio of directors Joaquim Dos Santos, Kemp Powers, and Justin K. Thompson, with the screenplay handled by Phil Lord, Christopher Miller, and David Callaham. The film also features a stellar voice cast, including Shameik Moore (Miles Morales), Hailee Steinfeld (Gwen Stacy), Oscar Isaac (Spider-Man 2099), Jake Johnson (Peter B. Parker), and Brian Tyree Henry (Jefferson Davis).
Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is one of the two sequels to Into the Spider-Verse, scheduled for release on June 2nd, 2023. The other project, Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse, is still in production and set to premiere on March 29th, 2024.
