This female superhero has stirred up a fierce backlash from Marvel fans.
Introducing Kamala Khan - the lead character in the recently premiered Ms. Marvel series from the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The show introduces audiences to a new teenage superhero who is a die-hard fan of Captain Marvel. One day, Kamala receives a package from her grandmother Sana, containing a mysterious golden bracelet. Sneaking away from her parents to attend AvengerCon, this bracelet bestows upon Kamala extraordinary powers, turning her into a superhero and wreaking havoc on the entire festival.

As a long-awaited project introducing a new generation of superheroes, Ms. Marvel has faced a barrage of controversies and fan outrage. What infuriates audiences the most is Marvel's alteration of Kamala's primary superpowers on screen, diverging greatly from the comics. Instead of her abilities to stretch and morph her body, the Ms. Marvel depicted in the show is likened to DC's Green Lantern - capable of releasing power to attack or defend using a bracelet.

But it doesn't stop there; many argue that the show is too monotonous, continuing to be a 'token' product of the feminist and racial equality movements. The character Kamala Khan becomes a target of criticism, now deemed the most hated female star of the current MCU. Upon its initial airing, Ms. Marvel received a slew of 1-star reviews on IMDb, currently concluding with a rather low score of 6.1, the lowest among Marvel series released so far.

Contrary to audience sentiments, industry professionals praise Ms. Marvel for its fresh storyline, appealing to the teenage demographic. Actress born in 2002 portraying Kamala Khan - Iman Vellani - doesn't pay much attention to the controversy wave, instead feeling proud to be a part of the MCU and representing her own community.

Upcoming: Ms. Marvel will make an appearance in The Marvels - the next cinematic project about Captain Marvel. The movie is slated for release in 2023.
