Next, you'll need to restore the mine shaft.
Gus will be standing near the mine shaft, and you need to talk to him to get a hammer because you can't mine ore in the mine without a hammer.
As you can see, the first few levels of the mine will have a relatively simple layout. Mine any ore you come across. Then use the pickaxe to dig soil and search for the ladder leading to lower levels.
