DTCL: Crushing Ahri Meta with the Mighty New Jax Formation
Jax has been a blazing hot meta pick, but recently it's been fiercely countered by Ahri Vệ Binh, yet with resilience and sharp claws, Chinese pros have devised improvements to triumph over it.While Jax remains the cornerstone of the composition, the rolling sequence, items, and supporting champions in the lineup have all undergone complete overhauls, including team positioning.

Improved Jax Version
The current meta revolves around a 3 to 4 square melee featuring Ahri + 6 Vệ Binh, making reroll cards like Jax and Yone quite challenging to play. Although Jax cards are still frequently obtained, securing a top 1 finish is no longer guaranteed as before. Players often address the weakness of lacking backline damage for Jax cards by empowering Lux and substituting Super Quẩy champions for added versatility.
The items recommended for this new playstyle that Mytour introduces today are entirely different. Jax will adhere to the standard combo of Guardian Angel, Hand of Justice, and Shadow Gauntlet. The rationale is straightforward; when facing Ahri, regardless of what you equip, a kiss spells death. Only Shadow Gauntlet, with its ability to dispel effects and switch targets, can aid Jax's survival. Another consideration is providing relatively strong items for Lux, as she serves as the secondary carry, while traditional tank items are assigned to Zac.
The essential items to acquire include: Not Today, Diligence, Arena, Triple Threat, Mythic Forge, Guardian's Horn, Learn How to Cast Spells...
Gameplay and Team Composition
Whether it's the old Jax cards or the improved versions, both demand exceptionally good items, especially ensuring Jax always has 3 standard items. Therefore, it's advisable to engage only when jungle monsters drop favorable item components like Gauntlet, Tear, or Overgrown Club. It's optimal to play when you can immediately assemble items, which also pressures other players interested in playing Jax to yield, fearing competition.
Since this card was initially weak, it's advisable to play a losing streak to accumulate funds and access the shop early to acquire standard items for Jax. As for the core, it must consist of 3 combat cores fighting each other; no matter how promising the economic or rolling cores may seem, they won't secure a top 1 finish. While there are instances of Jax rolling out 3 stars early due to the economic core, lacking the combat core in the late game leads to swift defeat and an early exit.
Level up to 6 at 3-2 and commence rolling slightly to stabilize the card. Of course, Jax Super Star EDM remains the top priority, but if unavailable, you can also install Heartsteel and any AP Super Star to sustain health. Alternatively, you can utilize Super Star Super Quẩy Jax or Lux Tuyệt Sắc. The objective at stage 3 dot is to maintain your health and, if possible, save funds for Heartsteel to pivot when leveling up to 7.
You'll be formidable at this stage, even if other players have accrued 4 money 2 stars. Roll until you achieve Jax 3 stars (remember to pick up Lux), then level up to 8, add Jazz to the team, remove Heartsteel, and mark the entire team. Subsequently, all you need to do is roll Lux 3 stars, save funds to reach level 9 to incorporate versatile 5-gold champions, or observe other players in the lobby to see if anyone aims for 4 money 3 stars to secure their cards.
Regarding team formation, with your Jax equipped with Shadow Gauntlet, you can confidently position it near the enemy's long-range carry. However, the most crucial placement is Lux; position her in row 2 or row 3 to trigger EDM's internal trait. Since Jax's skill entails leaping to the target with the most health within attack range + 1 square, and both Jax, Zed, and Zac are close combat units, they'll invariably leap to the tank. However, Lux boasts a range of 4 squares + 1 square skill, so if you align row 2 or 3 in the same direction as the other carry, Lux's chance to leap into the backline is almost certain.
With Lux 3 equipped with all 3 AP items, a single leap can one-shot any long-range carry, rendering this improved Jax formation completely immune to Ahri. Now that you know how to eliminate all the weaknesses of the traditional Jax formation, give it a try.
