Have you mastered the art of crimping network cables for your computer yet? This skill enables you to establish internet connectivity for your computer. In the following article, Mytour will guide you through the process of crimping network cables.
The fastest and most reliable way to crimp network cables
Preparation:
- 1 cable crimping tool.
- 1 box of RJ45 connectors.
- Length of network cable (depending on your usage needs)
Currently, there are two standards for crimping cables: T568A for connecting two computers and T568B for connecting computers to a hub. These standards include:
- Straight-through crimping: This type is used to connect two different devices. For example: PC + Switch, Switch + Router
The RJ-45 JACK TIA/EIA 568A STANDARD is referred to as Standard A.
T568A: 1. White/Green 2. Green 3. White/Orange 4. Blue 5. White/Blue 6. Orange 7. White/Brown 8. Brown
- Cross crimping: This type is used to connect two devices of the same type. For example: PC-PC, PC-Router ...
The RJ-45 JACK TIA/EIA 568B STANDARD is referred to as Standard B.
T568B: 1. White/Orange 2. Orange 3. White/Green 4. Blue 5. White/Blue 6. Green 7. White/Brown 8. Brown.
Some of you might wonder: When crimping cables without reversing the wire positions (not swapping wires) with devices of the same type like PC-Router, the network still functions. This is not wrong, as you may still receive a connection, but the transmission quality is sometimes compromised due to lack of electromagnetic interference shielding (achieved when adjusting wire pair positions).
In a standardized cable, there are eight copper wires twisted into pairs according to specifications: brown - white/brown, orange - white/orange, green - white/green, blue - white/blue, and one zinc wire. The zinc wire serves solely to reinforce the cable. This cable will be crimped with an RJ45 connector, requiring all eight copper wires to be crimped into the contact points within the RJ45 connector.
Proceeding with crimping network cables
Cross-crimping method
Step 1: Use pliers or wire cutters to strip the cable head. Cut it a little longer, arrange the colors for about 4 cm to make it easier.
Step 2: Untwist the pairs and arrange in the following order: White goes first - Orange - Blue - Green - Brown.
Step 3: Swap the white of green and the white of blue. Note: At this step, if you can skip swapping to make it easier, the network cable will be connected in straight-through standard (see below).
Step 4: Arrange the wires close together and use wire cutters to make them even.
Step 5: Insert the wires deeply into the connector so the wire ends touch the copper core.
Step 6: Then insert into the crimper and crimp firmly and decisively once.
Step 7: Observe whether the copper wires and copper leaves inside the RJ 45 are snug.
Step 8: Finally, plug one end that has just been completed into the computer. The other end is then processed in the same way.
Straight-through crimping method
Strip the cable jacket and arrange the wires in the order 1-->2-->3-->5-->6-->4-->7-->8.
Arrange them neatly and cut them even, leaving a section just enough for the RJ45 connector.
Then, proceed with the remaining steps as you would for cross-crimping.
These are all the steps to crimping network cables. With this article, you can perform cable crimping without needing to go to computer maintenance centers.
