Swain and Empire units are proving to be very strong after the buffs in patch 12.1 of TFT.
With the release of TFT patch 12.1, we can see a noticeable change in the meta as compositions revolving around Kai'Sa and the Idol trait have decreased in popularity. Additionally, compositions utilizing Urgot are no longer dominant due to Riot heavily nerfing this unit's interaction with Statikk Shiv. This opens up opportunities for many new compositions or previously underutilized team comps to rise up.
Among them, the Swain - Empire composition is rising incredibly strong on the Chinese server. This is because this composition received significant buffs in patch 12.1, with Swain's skill damage increasing and the snowball potential from other units like Talon and Samira greatly improved. This allows players to easily achieve win streaks at levels 5-6 and accumulate a large amount of gold to roll for 3-star Swain and Vex.
The ideal start for this composition is to activate the 3 Yordle milestone as early as possible. This helps players increase their chances of acquiring Vex and also adds a significant amount of gold from selling unnecessary pieces. Additionally, you should ensure the frontline is sturdy with Darius or Blitzcrank paired with Poppy.
During the mid-game, your focus should be on gradually adding Mage units and shaping the composition to ensure consistent damage output. Swain is the top priority as this unit deals significant damage and provides excellent healing. If you acquire Malzahar early, consider aiming for the 4 Mage milestone. If not, stop at 2 Mages and add Talon, Samira, and reach the 3 Empire milestone.
By level 7, prioritize completing the 3 Empire, 4 Mage milestone to ensure a stable team composition. Then, reroll to prioritize upgrading Vex and Swain to 3 stars as soon as possible. With sturdy frontline units that also deal significant area damage, players can aim for a top position.
In terms of core technology upgrades, prioritize items that provide gold and equipment such as Thief's Gloves, Pandora's Box. Since this composition requires frequent rerolling, economic factors should be paramount. Additionally, Ancient Armor is a useful upgrade as it provides Swain and Vex with a significant shield. If possible, opt for Sovereign's Rise to increase Talon or Samira's damage output alongside Swain.
For itemization, prioritize Swain with items like Giant Slayer, Last Whisper. As for other equipment, consider choosing a defensive item such as Warmog's Armor, Thornmail, or an attack-oriented item like Guardian Angel. For Vex, defensive items such as Warmog's Armor, Thornmail, Dragon's Claw are always top choices.
